Apparently, in order for there to be actual discussions going on in level 6 Japanese, we need more than just a 50-minute class, so there are two of those in a row, for a 1 hour and 40 minute class. This is good, and hopefully means that level 6 will be more interesting than level 5.
On the other hand, I now have four hours straight on Thursdays, right around lunch time too. Hrm. I'll probably have to stop by the conbini before those classes.
For anybody who cares, I am currently enrolled in:
- Spoken Japanese 6A
- Japanese Reading & Writing 6A
- Entrepreneurship in Japan
- The Body and Communication in Japan
Like last semester, I have two afternoons off. Hurray.

Had my first day of classes yesterday. Because it was a tuesday, it included all of my classes. Everyday I've got a different schedule, it's kind of annoying. Anyway, Japanese 5 seems to be okay for me. I think I can manage this, despite the sensei giving me the interview saying everybody else was at a higher level. Perhaps he told that to everybody, so in the end we're all gonna have to ganbarimasu. Reading and Writing looks to be more work. A lot more kanji I need to memorize. But I want to do this. I want to be able to read novels and such.
I really want a cell phone. D: Soon. But I need proof of alien registration first, which I'm getting today.
My host mom is an awesome cook. I'm suprised at how much effort she puts into it, considering she works a regular day job too. I know that I was just dead tired after
But what I've noticed is that even though she makes miso soup everyday, it's always a different miso soup. Yesterday's had noodles of some sort in it; the day before, it resembled a vegetable soup. So the Japanese restaurants back at home are cheating us out of variety!
Although the cafeteria here seems to always have the same, plain ol' miso soup as well.

I know I mentioned it before, but I'm sure people just skimmed over it ;)
I got into Spoken Japanese Lv 5, although I was told this might be a bit tough for me. That's okay, these past couple of years have just been simple repetition for me, and I want to finally learn something new. Although every Japanese person I meet is all "zomg SUGOI YOUR JAPANESE IS AWESOME," the fact of the matter is I can't completely follow conversations and I have no idea how to use certain conjunction adverb thingies. Whatever they're called.
For the Reading and Writing, I'm more proud that I'm in 5th level. I thought I'd be worse, just because I haven't been studying kanji that thoroughly. But hurray!
I'm at my host family's place right now! And supposedly there is only internet in one room, but somebody else in the neighborhood has an unsecured network so I am STEALING INTERNETS.
Anyway. My host family consists of an elderly couple and their daughter. It looks like they also have a son who is married with children, because there are pictures of the grandkids all over the place. Not to mention the tiny hello kitty slippers in the bathroom.
My room is... well, they said it was seven tatami mats, but my room has a hardwood floor so I can't really count to make sure. But I've got a twin-sized bed! I've never had a large bed before. XD And although it's warm, right now there's a nice breeze so I can handle it. The only problem is the thin-thin-thin curtains that didn't stop the sun from shining into my room at all.
I tried riding a bike last night. I'd love to be able to ride from here to school, but as we tested the route we came to quickly realize that I have absolutely no talent for it. I can ride just fine on wide roads, but the moment I need to confine myself to a tiny space my bike just wobbles around. I need to get a bit more practice in before I attempt the death trip.
Speaking of death trips! The house is three floors, and the stairs between the floors are narrow and steep. Also, made of smooth wood. As is the stereotype, the place is kept spotless (well, the stairs are, anyway), and while I was wearing my socks I was so sure I would somehow slip and die on those stairs. Thankfully, there are plenty of railings, but... yeaaaah.
I've got the day off today, so let's see what happens!
